Mussels in grow bags

Postby davidpai on Thu Jul 16, 2009 12:26 pm

Hi. We're growing mussels we got from Taylor on Agate Pass across from the north end of Bainbridge. The tidal flow is extremely strong so we keep them in grow bags. My question is: They tend to multiply and fill the bag quickly - do I need to keep room in the bags to maximize shell growth, or let them stay full?

HI Dave,
\You definately want to thin then out into at least two bags. Otherwise they wil start to compete for food and space--eventually they will die. Carrying capacity can be an issue--simply put food for x amount of animals in a specific area.
Best,
Dave
